What Utensil Are You?

You Are Chopsticks

People see you as exotic, unusual, and even a bit intimidating.

You are a difficult person to figure out.

In truth, you try to live a very simple life.

But most people are too frenzied to recognize the beauty of your simplicity.

Not a post on Japanese literature, I understand.

But, it is no wonder that I am the host of this challenge, being classified as a set of chopsticks for goodness' sake.

What utensil are you?

LOL. I'm a little disappointed. Apparently I'm a knife. ;)

Apparently I am also chop sticks but I am unclear why.

On another non literature note, the September issue of Bon Appetit had a really interesting article declaring Tokyo the current cocktail capital of the world. It was very interesting but I couldn't find it anywhere on line.

Moo, PBS had a special on Japan last Thursday. I got a 'first hand' look (through the TV!) at Toyko and it's Pachinko places. It was so fascinating! Unfortunately, I subscribe to Gourment, not Bon Appetit, so I missed the article to which you referred. However, it's interesting to me that I'm so much more aware of things Japanese now that I'm hosting this challenge. Your comment makes me think of Murakami's picture of Toyko in After Dark.

Belleza - I haven't had a chance to read After Dark yet but its on my TBR pile. There was a scene in Out set at a Pachinko place. I wish I had seen the PBS special as Pachinko is not something I am familiar with. Maybe PBS will replay it.

Moo, Pachinko machines were portrayed as part gambling/part pinball. I can see they'd be quite fun to play. If I hear of the special being replayed, I'll let you know; it was on some travel show. (The guy who comes after Rick Steves' Europe...I wish I could remember his name.)
